Why do we say “in Jesus’ name” when we pray?

If you are a Christian or have ever heard anyone pray before, you have probably heard the phrase “in Jesus’ name we pray” before. And if you have not, if you go to church then you will.

It’s a phrase that most people say at the end of their prayer right before they conclude with “amen”.

But I have always been a person that loves to know “why”.

One day I heard this phrase for the 1,459,345th time, and I just thought “why?”. Why do we say that? Why don’t we say in God’s name, or in the Holy Spirit’s name? Is purely for semantics? Does it have significance? Why do we have to say something before amen?

All these thoughts were rushing through my mind and I decided that I had to discover the answer for myself.
